MonaVie plans facility near Chennai

MonaVie, a Jordan-based health and wellness products brand, is planning to set up a manufacturing facility near Chennai. The proposed facility is part of the company’s Rs 100-crore plan for India.
Speaking to reporters after launching the company’s new RVL protein powder on Thursday, Lingam, president (South Asia), MonaVie, said that the company was in the process of scouting for a location, which could be Sriperumbudur, one of the major industrial clusters in Tamil Nadu.

The company has lined up Rs 100 crore for its India operations over the next three to five years, a major portion of which will be for the manufacturing facility, customised research and development (R&D) set-up to localise the product offerings, increase the distribution and logistics network, training and development of human resources and opening up the possibility of community commerce initiatives, Lingam said.

India is a promising market for the company and the new facility will help scale up its operations in the country. At present, Indian operations contribute around Rs 100 crore, he added.

The company’s product portfolio includes protein powder, health juices, energy blends and weight solutions such as oat meals. Currently, the company subcontracts the manufacturing and packaging of the ‘ONE’ range of products to its local partners in Tamil Nadu near Hosur and Sriperumbudur.

MonaVie recently came out with its India-centric brand ‘ONE’ and has launched products that suit the Indian palate with ready-to-eat oats, wheat and ragi meal. This is part of the plan that MonaVie has for India, which includes localising the product portfolio.

The direct marketing company with presence in over 23 countries with its largest base in the US, is also collaborating with local food technologists and experts to explore new possibilities, said D Guna, managing director, MonaVie India.

On the new powder which was launched on Thursday, Guna said that it contained high protein and does not contain cholesterol and lactose. Besides admissible levels of chromium and zinc, it contains low fat to refuel the body muscles and to provide energy.

Targeted at the weight-conscious category, RVL comes packed with all the right nutrients and helps control obesity and weight management and comes in a convenient powder form in an attractive tin that can be mixed with milk or water before consuming it, he added.
